Bryn Gweled Homesteads [www.bryngweled.org], in lower Bucks County, will hold a free Homesteading Open House 11am-5pm on Sunday, 9/22/13.
Founded in 1940, Bryn Gweled is home to 75 homesteads on 240 acres, and operates as an intentionally cooperative community. Come see how some of us tend a prize-winning sheep flock, keep bees, raise chickens, heat homes with wood, use solar and geothermal power, garden organically, manage fruit trees, compost, remodel or build on modest budgets. Demonstrations during the day will include extracting honey from a beehive, felting and wool arts, how to build an inexpensive chicken tractor, how to build an 8ftx150ft deer fence for $35 and make a bee jacket for under $10. There will be topical interest groups in the afternoon on keeping chickens, beekeeping, raising livestock, organic gardening, and renewable energy for your home and vehicles.
Free potluck lunch at 1:30pm (1805 Meadow Rd., Southampton, PA 18966).

Bill Hennessy, Executive Director of MAREA Receives NABCEP Certification
The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners" (NABCEP) is a professional certification organization for solar electric installers. Our executive director, Bill Hennessy, completed the rigorous competency standards for the voluntary certification program in March. NABCEP’s mission–to support, and work with, the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries, professionals, and stakeholders–is intended to develop and implement quality credentialing and certification programs for practitioners.

This credential assures his placement on the qualified installers list for PA’s new solar rebate program.

Congratulations, Bill. MAREA is extremely proud of your leadership and accomplishments.
